Fiorello Enrico Raffaelo La Guardia (better known as Fiorello Henry LaGuardia) was born December 11, 1882 in Manhattan, New York City, New York.[1]
Before he was an American politician, he had spent 3 years at a post in Ellis Island. He worked as a translator. Fiorello enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1917 and served as a pilot who led the first group of eighteen American's to be trained to fly Caproni Bombers in Italy. He had been elected to Congress 1916, so after his military service he served many terms as the Mayor of New York City.
Fiorello passed away September 20, 1947 in the Bronx, New York City, New York.[2]
La Guardia Airport named for him.
